भारत और European Union (EU) ने अपने सुरक्षा और रक्षा सहयोग (security & defence partnership) को अगले स्तर पर ले जाने का निर्णय लिया है। EU के Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas ने हाल ही में यह घोषणा करते हुए कहा कि दोनों पक्ष नई सुरक्षा एवं रक्षा साझेदारी समझौते (security and defence partnership agreement) पर सहमत हुए हैं और इसके signature phase की दिशा में आगे बढ़ रहे हैं। यह कदम भारत-EU strategic relationship में एक महत्वपूर्ण मील का पत्थर माना जा रहा है।
यह पहल ब्रुसेल्स और नई दिल्ली के बीच विस्तारित सहयोग को दर्शाती है, जिसमें दोनों पक्ष security, defence industrial cooperation, strategic interoperability और वैश्विक stability जैसे क्षेत्रों में साझेदारी को मज़बूत करेंगे। अभी तक इस समझौते के सभी technical और procedural details सार्वजनिक नहीं किए गए हैं, लेकिन diplomatic circles का मानना है कि यह partnership regional और global geopolitical challenges के मद्देनज़र बनाई जा रही है।
विशेष रूप से यह कदम महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि आज विश्व में सुरक्षा-प्रतिकूल परिस्थितियाँ बढ़ रही हैं, और दोनों पक्ष अंतरराष्ट्रीय शांति-सुरक्षा व्यवस्था को बचाने के लिए मजबूती से काम करना चाहते हैं। इससे पहले भी भारत और EU ने 2025 में सलामत साझेदारी के इरादे जताए थे, जिसमें समुद्री सुरक्षा, cyber threats और आतंकवाद-रोधी अभियान को लेकर सहयोग बढ़ाने की बात शामिल थी।
यह साझेदारी 26–27 जनवरी 2026 को नई दिल्ली में होने वाले 16वें India-EU Summit के अवसर पर और अधिक स्पष्ट रूप से formalize होने की संभावना है, जब EU के प्रमुख अधिकारी और भारत के प्रधानमंत्री मिलकर comprehensive strategic agenda पर सहमति जताएंगे। इस एजेंडा में security & defence के साथ-साथ trade, technology cooperation और sustainability जैसे क्षेत्रों को भी शामिल किया जाएगा।
